Various news sites have revealed that Joss Whedon‘s Avengers Assemble has surpassed The Dark Knight in the box office charts, setting new records on the way.
The film has taken $1bn in just it’s third week of release and looks set to rise into the top ten grossing films of all time. Experts are predicting it could take the third spot from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which it also beat into first place for the highest grossing US box office opening weekend.
The all-time top spot, which is held by James Cameron‘s Avatar may be a bit too far out of reach, but Avengers Assemble is currently keeping pace with Avatar’s initial takings. Fingers crossed!
It is also widely expected that The Dark Knight Rises will beat Avengers Assemble’s amazing figures when that is released on 20th July this year.
