At ACE Comics, we’re genuine supporters of anyone trying to break into the comic book field, even more so if the creators are local. And that’s just what we have with ‘Visaroth’.
It’s an ambitious project – a full graphic novel – that is really only just getting off of the ground, but the guys came to see us at the shop and we were impressed with the quality of the work they have produced up till now.
“Some stories aren’t meant to exist within long narratives; this was the problem when I started writing the Visaroth in 2009. The story had hit me as clear as day but I couldn’t work out what format it should be in. I knew that my idea was extremely visual and needed to be seen rather than read, but the question was – what exactly was the Visaroth? Was it a game, a movie? or even a manga? The idea of a graphic novel only really occurred to me when I bumped into Patrick Hennings, an old friend from secondary school.
I originally only wanted him to draw the Visaroth for me; my drawing skills are sub-par at best, so I sent Patrick a long description of my story. What he sent back blew me away; the figure was gritty, dark and disturbing, in short it was exactly what I was looking for. And so began the reinvigoration of my love affair with graphic novels and my partnership with an artist who seems to know exactly what I want.” – AV
