The Best Comic Book Covers of 2014 – Week #27
ANGEL AND FAITH – SEASON 10 #4
Scott Fischer continues his run of fine covers for Angel And Faith – Season 10 with this beautiful, painted, yin and yang portrait of Eliza Dushku‘s Faith, mirroring the alternate paths she wrestles with on the pages within.
BATMAN 66 MEETS GREEN HORNET #2
Master artist Alex Ross continues to amaze with his life-like paintings, this time it’s an image of Batman, Robin, the Green Hornet and Kato stuck to the top of a speeding train by, what looks like, bubblegum (yes, seriously). It’s great to see 60’s TV Batman outside of Gotham City, and, thanks to Alex’s art style, we have a perfect ‘still’ from the ‘episode’.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’S MOST WANTED #1
Whether it’s the JJ Abrahams style lens flare coming from the pistol, the rich, cosmic colour palette, the intense glare in Rocket and Groot‘s eyes or the conveyed sense of excitement and fear that rises when the reader is literally face-to-face with these Guardians Of The Galaxy, there’s something about Jee-Hyung Lee‘s cover for Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Most Wanted #1 that stands it apart from the other comic book covers. We love it, and we’re sure you’re going to be seeing a lot of these guys this summer!
ROCKET RACCOON #1
It was always an inspired choice to put Skottie Young at the helm of Rocket Raccoon. His style fits the tone of the book to a tee, and we get this fabulous painted cover of everyone’s favourite Guardian Of The Galaxy to boot!
THOR – GOD OF THUNDER #24
Thor stands atop the ruins of Broxton in this emotive cover for God Of Thunder #24 by Agustin Alessio. His artwork inside is equally as beautiful too.
IRON FIST – LIVING WEAPON #4
Cover by KAARE ANDREWS
Kaare Andrews‘ grungey, stylized, front for Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #4 makes brilliant use of negative space. Strongly reminiscent of Frank Miller’s Sin City, Danny Rand spews sparks of energy from his fists before towering city buildings in the distance, the relentless, thick black silhouettes highlighted only by the yellow of Iron Fist‘s iconic mask and the blood-red dragon on his chest. Powerful work.
Congrats to Kaare and Marvel, they get the paper crown this week!
