The Best Comic Book Covers of 2013 – Week #47
The knights are arriving at the farm in issue #135 of ‘Fables’, and Greg Ruth’s brilliant depiction of this is the first of Week 47’s great covers. It’s not every day you see a knight crouched at your door and the skilled blend of the unusual into the mundane setting is both ‘real’ and captivating.
We love Amanda Conner. And we love Harley Quinn. And we really love Amanda Conner’s cover for Harley Quinn #0!
An outstanding lesson in ‘less-is-more’, Jamal Pepper’s cover for ‘Sonic Super Digest #5’ is just brilliant. Instantly recognizable and eye-catching, this edgeless face-on portrait of the fastest hedgehog around sits beautifully in the surrounding wash of blue.
‘Wolverine Max’ is a perennial fixture in our Cover Of The Week feature and Jock’s fantastic work with the series continues with issue #13, an unbalancing, absorbing exercise with black and white spirals.
Another ever-present Cover Of The Week artist, Mike Del Mundo, has produced a fabulous front for ‘X-Men: Legacy #20’. Essentially an instructional diagram sheet, the addition of paper folds and texture adds to the authenticity of the artwork and it is thoroughly engaging in it’s own right.
2013’s 47th Cover Of The Week Winner…
Cover by CHRIS BACHALO
With visions of the Beatles’ ‘Hard Day’s Night’ artwork springing to mind, Chris Bachalo’s cover for ‘Uncanny X-Men #14’ is a clever and humorous tale of it’s own, featuring new character Morph transforming into various familiar mutants, with a comical resolution following. Definitely our outstanding cover this week!
Congrats to Chris and Marvel, they get the paper crown this week!
