Among the list of new comic series beginning in April 2016, Marvel have announced the following five fantastic features…
Leading the attack is Star Wars: Poe Dameron, a brand new book featuring the hero pilot from Star Wars: The Force Awakens! Charles Soule (Star Wars: Lando, Daredevil) and Phil Noto (Star Wars: Chewbacca, Black Widow) bring you the ongoing adventures of the best pilot in the galaxy, hand-picked for the resistance by General Leia Organa to lead a squadron on covert missions against the First Order. His backstory is revealed as Poe sets off investigating sites of historical importance to the Force…
Featuring in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther stars in a brand new ongoing series from MacArthur Genius and National Book Award winner Ta-Nehisi Coates (Between The World And Me) and artist Brian Stelfreeze (Shadow of the Bat, Domino). A superhuman terrorist group called The People has sparked a violent uprising among the citizens of African nation Wakanda. The current Black Panther, T’Challa, knows the country must change to survive – the question is, will the Black Panther survive the change?
Christopher Hastings and Gurihiru are the team on Gwenpool, another new ongoing series. Breaking out from her first appearances in 2015, Gwen Poole used to be a comic book reader just like you, until she woke up in a world where the characters she read about seemed to be real! Could Gwenpool truly be Marvel’s least responsible and least role-modely character to date? She can if she tries!
Empress is the new, seven issue miniseries from Mark Millar (The Authority, The Ultimates, Civil War, Kick-Ass) and Stuart Immonen (Ultimate X-Men, New Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man). The story centres on the wife of a galactic dictator and her plan to leave him and take her three children – Aine, Adam and Puck – with her, armed only with her wits, her bodyguard, and three guns. As an added twist, the planet of which she is queen is Earth, 65 million years ago!
Rounding out the quintet is the return of Moon Knight by Jeff Lemire (All New Hawkeye, Extraordinary X-Men, Old Man Logan) and Greg Smallwood (A+X, S.H.I.E.L.D.). Moon Knight, Marc Spector, wakes up in an insane asylum with no powers and a lifetime’s worth of medical records. Has he really been fighting criminals and keeping New York City safe for years? Something is wrong, but is that something Marc Spector himself? Find out when his whole identity/indentities are called into question!
