Biff’s Bit: It’s Nearly Christmas
I am still slowly getting to grips with the fact it is Christmas in a few weeks, and here I am looking at the latest Previews catalogue, having to order product for the next Free Comic Book Day on May 2nd 2020. Winter has not even begun and I have to plan for Spring! No wonder I am never sure what the month is, let alone the day. Still, thinking of lighter and warmer days plus a shop full of happy and excited customers warms the cockles of this retailer’s heart!
No politics this month as my soul has been drained by listening to politicians of all parties lying as if this was an event in the Olympics and they are all convinced they will win gold!
Let me wax lyrical about comics, which is more fun…
Image Comics
It is landmark time again as we find Savage Dragon #250 on the order form.
Having just recovered from Spawn reaching #300, now it is Eric Larsen and Savage Dragon proving good storytelling can last. Why not pop this issue on your list, if only for this one off event.
DC Comics
Another landmark issue! Last month was Wonder Woman #750, now Flash reaches #750!
I was gob-smacked and saddened when the original Flash series finished at #350, as Barry Allen hung up his shoes and was settling to life in the future. Now the future is #750! Like previous DC milestone issues, Flash #750 has multiple covers, so pick your favourite decade (mine will be the 1970s).
DC Black Label’s Hill House comics are looking very, very good. Along with the return of some Vertigo titles, DC are leading the way with mature titles that are interesting …and that sell. Now I know that Joe Hill is not writing all the titles labelled as Joe Hill Presents, but the first titles off the block are a damn fine read.
Dark Horse Comics
While dwelling on nostalgia, I must tip Predator Hunters III. This four-issue miniseries links back to the very first Predator story from 1987. It looks like the jungles of Central America are still not a safe place.
Chris Warner can still pack a punch and spin an exciting yarn. Another one to revisit, I think.
Marvel Comics
An original copy of Marvel Comics #1 (1939) in excellent condition recently sold for $1,260,000 – an all time high! Despite this, I think I’ll stick to reprints. If I have large sums of money spare, I think my wife would want me to fix the patio, even if I explain how important this issue is! And before you ask, no, I was not selling comics when this was printed.
I am, however, still harking back to old times as this month marks the proper return of Wolverine in a new, solo ongoing series. About time I say – my head got a bit dizzy with all that Hunt for Wolverine malarky!
My head is also a bit dizzy with this new direction that the X-Men are taking. I am loving the stories, but the motives are scaring me. Is it really Xavier? Only time will tell.
Well that’s all for now and I wish every single one of you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Mission for the Month:
Please vote and make sure you enjoy the festive season whatever the result!
