And so, on to a new year of fabulous front covers for 2013!
Our Cover Of The Week feature kicks of in fine form with the debut of Morbius, The Living Vampire and a beautiful painted cover from Gabriele Dell’Otto. Speaking of beautiful, David Mack makes an appearance with Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Willow Wonderland #3, while Rafael Albuquerque provides an inspiring front for American Vampire #34 and J. Scott Campbell lends his unmistakable touch to Danger Girl/GI Joe #5. The anticipation is building for the next Iron Man movie and this week, Marvel have relased the prelude comic, complete with the fantastic initial movie poster artwork created by BLT Communications.
The first Cover Of The Week for 2013, though, goes to…
…the stunning cover for Teen Titans #15 by Greg Capullo! This image of a shadowed Joker is dramatic, captivating and a bit terrifying in equal measure!
Congrats to Greg and DC, they get the very first paper crown for 2013!
Some wonderful covers have graced the comic book shelves this week…
The surpirse hit title of the moment, My Little Pony: Friends Are Magic #1, featured a whopping six ‘mane’ covers (groan) from series artist Andy Price – we opted for his interpretation of Applejack (cover B). Stuart Immonen provides a herioc stance for Wolverine and the guys on All New X-Men #2, while the most super of the new super-teams appeared on Ardian Syaf‘s excellent front for Masks #1. Amanda Connor adds yet another fabulous cover for Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #4 and Tristan Jones gets another Ghostbusters comic in the running with a familiar image to fans of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, on his cover for Ghostbusters #15. Two of this week’s great titles featured simple white backgrounds to showcase the characters; the first being Rafael Albuquerque‘s haunting cover to American Vampire #33 (‘All By Myself’ by Eric Carmen, anyone?), the second being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #16 by Andy Kuhn, where the heroes in a half-shell appear to be in a bit of a sticky situation.
Wonderful covers indeed. But none quite as hypnotizing as…
…Uncanny Avengers #2 by John Cassaday! Steranko inspired, striking imagery utilizing op art that leaps out from the comic book shelves!
Congrats to John and Marvel, they get the paper crown this week!
Last week’s comics proved to be another fine collection of inviting front covers with a few catching our collective eye in particular.
The Lizard makes a grisly return on the front of Amazing Spider-Man #688 courtesy of Giuseppe Camuncoli, while there is high drama from Jose Ladronn on All Star Western #10 and high class from Sean Phillips on Fatale #6.
However, for week 26 of 2012, our Cover of the Week is…
…the stylish American Vampire #28 by Rafael Albuquerque.
Congrats to Rafael and DC Vertigo, they get the paper crown for week 26!
DC Vertigo have announced that to tie in with this summer’s American Vampire storyline, titled ‘Blacklist’, they will be publishing five variant covers over the arc from Greg Capullo, Dave Johnson, Jock, Francesco Francavilla and Dustin Nguyen.
The first is by Batman artist Greg Capullo and will feature on American Vampire #28 in June.
